People don’t need a voters identification card in order to vote in the upcoming plebiscite for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
Commission on Elections Spokesman James Jimenez issued this reminder to voters to correct the disinformation that has been going around saying otherwise.
“A Comelec issued voter ID is not needed in order to exercise your right to vote,” he said in his Twitter account @jabjimenez.
“This is true in the regular elections, just as it is true in the upcoming BOL plebiscite,” added Jimenez.
He explained that an ID is no longer needed as there is the voters list.
“We have the voters list where we can verify the identity. So, there is no need to produce an ID unless there will be a challenge in which case the person has to gove a sworn statement affirming his or her identity,” Jimenez said.
The Comelec already sent word to their field officials to address the disinformation.
The plebiscite for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) will be conducted in two separate days on January 21 and February 6, 2019.
The poll body said the January 21 plebiscite will be conducted in areas comprising the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), as well as Isabela City in Basilan, and Cotabato City.
For the province of Lanao del Norte, except Iligan City; the municipalities of Aleosan, Carmen, Kabacan, Midsayap, Pikit, and Pigkawayan in the province of North Cotabato; and all other areas contiguous to any of the Bangsamoro core areas where: the local government of such area, by way of a resolution, asked for inclusion in the plebiscite; or at least 10% of the registered voters in a local government unit, by way of a petition, asked for inclusion in the plebiscite, the plebiscite will be held on February 6.
