Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said yesterday they are confident that they will solve the killing of Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe.
Albayalde said the ongoing probe of the Special Investigation Task Group Batocabe found that the most probable motive behind the lawmaker’s killing is politics.
“Maganda ang itinatakbo ng ating investigation. We just don’t want to divulge it yet pero maganda ang leads natin dito and we are confident na maso-solve natin itong kaso,” Albayalde said.
“Medyo talagang ito ay pulitika.”
According to Albayalde, also among the possible motives being looked into are the involvement of the New People’s Army.
Batocabe and his security detail, SPO1 Orlando Diaz, were killed during a gift-giving activity in Barangay Burgos, Daraga, Albay a week ago.
Batocabe was supposed to run for mayor in Daraga in the 2019 midterm elections.
His family firmly believes that the killing was politically-motivated while a name of a political figure was floated as investigators gather for information.
“‘Yung sinasabi nila na pangalan, as of this time, wala pa talagang substantial evidence pero hindi ibig sabihin wala na silang kinalaman,” Albayalde hinted. (Martin Sadongdong)
