President Duterte on Thursday threatened to slit the throats of big-time drug personalities in front of human rights advocates, calling the armed addicts as “psychos.”
The President said the country’s drug problem was “kind of under control” but the bloody crackdown will continue in the remainder of his term.
“I’m just warning for the remaining three years na ‘yung malalaki, talagang tatamaan ‘yan. And if you ask me kung mamatay ‘yan? Mamamatay talaga ‘yan,” Duterte said during the birth anniversary celebration of former political adviser Francis Tolentino in Tagaytay City.
“’Pag big time ka, hindi kita papatawarin. Sa harapan ng human rights, I will slit your throat. Wala akong pakialam. Sabihin ko sa inyo, huwag mong gawain ‘yan sa bayan ko. Talagang yayariin kita,” he said.
The President admitted that he could not eradicate the drug problem but renewed his resolve to “reduce”
the menace within his term. “Iyang droga na ‘yan, medyo it’s kind of under control na pero I need to really reduce it,” he said.
He said he was wrong to put a deadline on the drug war when he ran for President in 2016. He thought he could eliminate the illegal drug trade in the country similar to what he accomplished in Davao City.
“Nagkamali kasi ako ng ano because I thought that I could fix it just like Davao. Simple lang. Iyong iba pinatay ko talaga, eh wala tayong magawa eh. Kay lumaban… Alam mo itong mga adik, believe it or not, they are really armed. And they’re willing to… Mga psycho ‘yan,” he said. (Genalyn Kabiling)
