A barangay captain was gunned down by unidentified gunmen in San Fernando, Cebu the other day.
Johnny Arriesgado, captain of Barangay Magsico in San Fernando, was driving a multicab when armed men on board a motorcycle fired at him around 7 p.m., said Senior Insp. Lymel Pasquin, chief of the San Fernando police station.
Hit in the different parts of the body, Arriesgado lost control of the wheel, causing the multicab to fall off a bridge.
The assailants drove off after the attack.
Arriesgado was arrested in July 2017 after several firearms were recovered in his house during a police raid.
At the time, Arriesgado was an ex-officio member of the municipal council being the president of the Association
of Barangay Councils.
Arriesgado was the second elected government official in San Fernando killed this month.
Last Jan. 10, municipal councilor Reneboy Dacalos, 51, was shot dead by still-unidentified gunmen inside the store of his brother-in-law in Barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando. (Calvin D. Cordova)
