The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration lifted tropical cyclone warnings over some areas but remain hoisted over eight areas in the Bicol region and Eastern Visayas Monday afternoon as tropical depression “Amang” continues to move generally northward over the eastern seaboard of Eastern Samar.
Around 2 p.m. Monday, PAGASA estimated the location of Amang at 80 kilometers north-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar or 120 kms east of Catarman, Northern Samar. It made landfall over Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Amang has maintained its maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 60 kph. Initially moving west-northwest, the weather disturbance was moving slowly north at 15 kph as of Monday afternoon.
Tropical cyclone warning Signal No. 1 has been lifted but remains hoisted over Sorsogon and Masbate, including Ticao Island, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte.
PAGASA warned of moderate to heavy rains over Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar Monday, and over Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate Tuesday.
Residents, especially those living in areas at high risk of flooding and landslides, were advised to take appropriate actions, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring PAGASA updates. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
