San Miguel Alab Pilipinas broke loose in the third quarter to repeat over Hong Kong Eastern, 88-76, Sunday night and remain on top of the ASEAN Basketball League at the City of Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna.
Back-to-back triples by 7-foot-4 import PJ Ramos and Josh Urbiztondo sparked Alab’s pullaway from a 48-45 lead early in the third on its way to a 10th win in 12 outings this season.
Renaldo Balkman topscored with 20 points, Ramos had 18 and Urbiztondo made 16 for Alab, which won the second of a stretch of three games in six days.
Alab concludes a busy January with a road game against lowly Zhuhai Wolf Warriors in the Chinese province of Guandong today.
Ray Parks Jr. sat out his second straight game due to a strained groin.
Coach Jimmy Alapag saw a different match compared to the first meeting last Jan. 11 at the same venue when Alab took control right from the start to produce an 87-75 victory.
The Filipino cagers only led 45-41 at the half before outscoring Hong Kong in the third, 28-14, to hold a 73-55 advantage going into the final period.
