Wangs Basketball put on a strong display to clobber The Masterpiece-Trinity University of Asia, 89-69, in the PBA D-League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Arvin Tolentino had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Radge Tongco produced 13 points and seven assists as the Couriers set in motion their quest to rebound from missing the playoffs of last year’s Aspirants Cup.
Axel Inigo and Rickson Gerero scored 12 points each while Ronan Santos was the fifth double-digit scorer for Wangs with 10.
The Couriers of coach Pablo Lucas are banking on their new acquisitions led by Tolentino as they aim to compete in the Foundation Group of the PBA’s developmental tournament.
Wangs joins Valencia City-San Sebastian, Chadao-Far Eastern University and Centro Escolar University in the list of teams which won their opening assignments in the said group.
Former Arellano standout Michael Canete scored 19 points but The Masterpiece-Trinity couldn’t get things right in the second half, allowing Wangs to turn the contest into a blowout.
The Couriers won’t see action until next Thursday when they play the Metropac-San Beda Movers at the same venue.
Metropac-San Beda was playing University of Perpetual Help at presstime to begin its campaign.
