CAMP OLA, Albay – A candidate for municipal councilor was gunned down at his residence in Cataingan, Masbate Saturday.
Chief Insp. Malu Calubaquib, Philippine National Police Regional Office 5 spokesperson, identified the victim as Romeuel G. Medina, 40, of Market Site, Barangay Poblacion.
Medina, a former police officer, was running for municipal councilor under the National People’s Coalition.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was about to open the gate of his house when a man appeared and pretended to help him.
Suddenly, the suspect drew a .45 caliber pistol and shot the victim at the back of his head.
The gunman fled towards Masbate City while the victim was taken to the Cataingan District Hospital where he was declared dead.
Recovered from the crime scene was one fired cartridge of a caliber .45 pistol.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the motive of the incident and possible identification of the suspect. (Niño Luces)
