Malacañang yesterday released the appointment papers of the 76 members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, five days after President Duterte administered their oath in Malacañang.
Their appointment papers were signed by Duterte on Feb. 22.
Moro Islamic Liberation Front chairman Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, also known as Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim, is the interim chief minister of the BTA.
Most of the BTA members are nominees of the MILF. Among the prominent names from the MILF are Ghazali Jaafar, vice chairman; Ali Solaiman, second vice chairman; Mohagher Iqbal, peace panel chairman, and Abdullah Macapaar, also known as “Commander Bravo.”
Duterte still has to name four more members to complete the 80-man BTA which is composed of representatives from the Moro and non-Moro groups, indigenous peoples, women, youth, settler communities, and traditional leaders.
The Bangsamoro Organic Law states that the MILF will lead the BTA or will have majority of its seats. Other BTA members were nominees of an Moro National Liberation Front faction while the rest were chosen by the government.
The BTA is the body that will serve as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s government from 2019 to the May 2022 elections. (Argyll Geducos)
