CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – A barangay chairman was gunned down by three armed men in Purok 1, Barangay Don Alejandro, San Luis town, Agusan del Sur province, police reported Friday.
A report from Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) showed that Rubencio C. Salamorin, 45, village chairman of Barangay San Pedro in San Luis town, was on his way to attend a meeting at San Luis Municipal Hall when he was killed.
The victim was onboard his motorcycle at 2 p.m. on Wednesday when the suspects with an M16 Armalite rifle and handguns flagged him down in Purok 1, Barangay Don Alejandro, and shot him several times.
The victim died on the spot from bullet wounds in different parts of the body.
The suspects immediately fled towards a mountainous part of the barangay, police said.
Responding police recovered four empty fired cartridges believed to be from a .45-caliber pistol, two fired bullets that exited from the back portion of the victim’s body and one pair of slippers.
San Luis police are conducting investigation to identify the perpetrators and establish the motive behind the incident. (Mike U. Crismundo)
