The low-pressure area found east of Mindanao is expected to develop into a tropical depression before it enters the country over the weekend, the State weather bureau said yesterday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said the LPA was spotted 2,100 kilometers east of Mindanao.
PAGASA weather specialist Gener Quitlong said the LPA might possibly develop into a tropical depression within 24 to 36 hours and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility today or tomorrow based on its track.
It will be locally named as “Chedeng,” the third tropical cyclone to enter the country this year and the first this month.
Quitlong added that the weather disturbance might also make a landfall on the eastern part of Mindanao on Monday or Tuesday.
While the LPA has no direct effect on the country for now, its trough or extension will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Davao and Socsargen.
Cloudy skies with rain showers and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the Cordillera Administrative Region, most parts of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon due to the tail-end of the cold front or the boundary where the cool and warm winds meet.
PAGASA advised residents in the areas affected by the trough of LPA and tail-end of cold front for possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains. (Alexandria San Juan(
