Ten senatorial candidates have the backing of Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III in this year’s midterm elections.
Sotto yesterday confirmed that he has submitted to the Nationalist People’s Coalition his personal lineup for the May 13 senatorial race.
In the list were reelectionists Senators Grace Poe and Joseph Victor Ejercito and former Sen. Lito Lapid, who are Sotto’s partymates in the NPC.
Other reelectionists were also included. They are Senators Cynthia Villar, Nancy Binay, Sonny Angara, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, and Paolo “Bam” Aquino.
The Senate chief has been expressing support for the seven reelectionist senators, regardless of their political affiliations.
Also in Sotto’s lineup were Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano and former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go.
Sotto said he is mulling on who will complete his personal “Magic 12” slate.
Last week, Sotto said the NPC is still preparing its own senatorial slate which could include 11 candidates.
The party’s official slate is expected to be revealed in their general meeting when they will be inviting “some senatorial candidates,” Sotto said. (Vanne Terrazola)
