Ateneo goes for a ninth straight win and tighten its grip on top spot against Far Eastern University in the UAAP women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles, toting an 8-1 record, hope to gain closer toward securing the first Final Four berth as they aim to extend their mastery on the Lady Tamaraws in the match set at 4 p.m.
University of the Philippines meets University of the East in the opener of the women’s doubleheader at 2 p.m., looking to create at least a tie for fourth place.
UP is in fifth place at 5-4, half-game behind idle University of Santo Tomas (6-4) and a game below third-running FEU.
Kat Tolentino, Maddie Madayag and Bea de Leon will lead the attack for coach Oliver Almadro as Ateneo tries to extend their streak that began after losing to the defending champion La Salle in the opener.
Ateneo seeks a repeat of its thrilling five-set victory over FEU last Feb. 24 at the same venue.
The Lady Eagles overcame losing the first two sets to turn back the Lady Tams, 14-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-12.
Tolentino is ranked third in the league in scoring with 142 points, Madayag is ahead in blocks with 33 and De Leon has been one of the Lady Eagles’ consistent performers.
Aching for revenge is FEU, which needs a win to regain a share of second with La Salle.
