Authorities have accosted two policemen for allegedly escorting a mayoralty candidate of Marilao, Bulacan, a move that is strictly being prohibited by the national police leadership during election period.
The two cops were identified as Police Corporal Gerlie Garcia and Patrolman Jed Ceril Sevilla, both assigned to the Marilao Police Station.
Police Col. Romeo Caramat, commander of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF), said the two cops were reprimanded for violating the order of the Philippine National Police leadership.
“They violated the order that policemen should be non-partisan. Administrative charges will be filed against them,” said Caramat.
He said the operation occurred on March 29 during the two campaign rallies of Marilao mayoralty bet Ricardo Silvestre.
The incident also caused the relief of Police Lt. Col. Ricardo Pangan as chief of police of Marilao.
The PNP leadership earlier warned all police commanders to be apolitical for the midterm elections next month.
All police commanders were also reminded to be careful in providing security for all candidates, especially on matters that would be misconstrued as police favoring certain candidates. (Aaron Recuenco)
