A vintage bomb was found Saturday morning by a member of the Manila Bay Task Force during a dredging operation at Manila Bay coastline near the United States Embassy.
According to Rodolfo Velasco, worker of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), he dug up the sand after he noticed a solid metal protruding on the shoreline of the Manila Bay near the US Embassy in Ermita at around 7:30 a.m. on April 6.
Members of the task force immediately informed the Manila Police District Explosives and Ordnance Division (MPD-EOD) after they confirmed that it was a vintage bomb.
A team from MPD-EOD led by officer Holm Fabian retrieved the vintage bomb he identified as an 81mm illuminating round.
The bomb was turned over to the MPD headquarters for proper disposition and disposal.
Authorities said the bomb was removed at 9:08 a.m. on Saturday and was taken to Tarlac province for controlled explosion. (Erma Edera)
