MARAWI CITY – Military men arrested former Mayor Omar Solitario Ali outside Dimaporo gymnasium on Friday after attending a Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) sortie.
The rally was supposed to be graced by President Duterte who failed to show up due to bad weather.
Ali is one of the nine mayoralty candidates in Marawi City and one of the three PDP-LABAN candidates come May 2019 election.
It can be recalled that on the height of Marawi siege, Duterte issued a list of names allegedly involved and arrest order number 1 of the Department of National Defense (DND).
Ali’s son, Vice Mayor Arafat Salic, was arrested last month and so did his brother, ex-mayor Fahad Salic, at the height of the siege in Cagayan de Oro city. Both, however, were released for lack of evidence.
In an interview before the rally started, Ali denied his involvement in the siege and his presence is proof that he is not guilty.
Ali said that he’s been friends with the president since he was still mayor. (Bonita Ermac)
