The Eagles edged the University of the East Warriors, 25-20, 25-12, 27-29, 25-15, while the Falcons defeated the La Salle Green Spikers, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, to improve their respective records to 9-4 cards going into the final playdate of the two-round elimination.
Interestingly, the two squads will be facing for the No. 3 seed on April 28 while league-leading National University (10-1) battles Far Eastern University (9-2).
Ateneo banked on its sizzling offense led by Tony Koyfman and Ron Medalla, who merged for 24 of the team’s 50 kills to finish with 17 and 12 points.
Gian Glorioso also stepped up for the Eagles with 11 points while Ishmael Rivera and Chumason Njigha added nine points each in a big show of balanced attack.
Ateneo also provided a tough defensive wall with 12 blocks, including four from Koyfman and two from Njigha.
