A businessman allegedly high on illegal drugs went on a shooting spree, killing his own brother and a massage therapist, and wounding a nurse inside their house in San Juan City, Tuesday night.
Colonel Ariel Fulo, San Juan police chief, said the suspect, Roberto Banez, 59, was arrested by responding cops.
“Five years ago, Roberto already did the same thing. He was freed because the one he shot before managed to live,” Fulo said.
Based on police report, Roberto entered their house on Barasoain St. in Barangay Little Baguio at around 8:30 p.m. and gunned down his own brother, 63-year-old Juanito Banez, and then shot their in-house nurse, Rhea Antonio, 33, in the left foot.
The nurse managed to run away and go to the nearest hospital.
After a few minutes, Robert saw their massage therapist, Maria Theresa Artiquera, and shot her several times, killing her.
Fulo said his men went to the house and tried to negotiate with the suspect for his surrender. The barangay chairman also tried to convince him to yield.
Instead of heeding the lawmen’s order, Roberto fired shots at them. When he ran out of bullets, he went to the second floor of the house.
San Juan police’s SWAT team used a teargas to force him to come out. When the cops entered the house, they saw him lying on the floor.
Police seized from the suspect three guns – a 12-gauge shotgun, a .45-caliber pistol , and a .22-caliber revolver.
“We learned that Roberto is a sharpshooter and he is a gun enthusiast,” Fulo said.
It was learned that before Roberto previously surrendered to the police, confessing that he is an illegal drug user.
Fulo said the suspect underwent drug rehabilitation through the help of the government of San Juan.
Roberto is now detained at the San Juan Police Station. (Jel Santos)
