Games Monday (JCSGO Gym, Cubao)
1 p.m. – McDavid vs Ironcon-UST
3 p.m. – Che’Lu vs Cignal-Ateneo
Quarterfinal-bound Cignal-Ateneo looks to secure a twice-to-beat advantage against Che’Lu Bar & Grill in the PBA D-League at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
The Blue Eagles, who lead the Aspirants Group with a 7-1 record, take on the Revellers at 3 p.m. in the final game of their elimination round assignment.
Ironcon-University of Santo Tomas, on the other hand, hopes to boost its quarters bid against lowly McDavid in the 1 p.m. opener.
Each of the top two teams in the Aspirants and Foundation Groups earn the twice-to-beat bonus in the crossover quarterfinals of the 20-team D-League season.
While getting the incentive would be fine and dandy, coach Tab Baldwin stressed that the main objective is to make the Blue Eagles gain some progress in their buildup for the UAAP season set later this year.
Ange Kouame, Thirdy Ravena, Isaac Go and brothers Mike and Matt Nieto are likely to be among the players Baldwin will insert for what could be a tough duel with the Revellers, who need to win in order to stay in the playoff hunt.
Che’Lu absorbed a 101-92 loss to Go for Gold-St. Benilde in its previous outing, dropping to fifth place in the Aspirants Group at 3-2.
Meanwhile, Ironcon-UST is out to vent its ire on McDavid after its 4-0 start came to an end with a 114-101 defeat to Petron-Letran.
McDavid, on the other hand, is determined to put its embarrassing 106-31 setback to Ateneo behind which set a record for lowest points scored in a game. (Jonas Terrado)
