The Pilipinas Powervit Aguilas can lean on the broad shoulders of import Charles Mammie when it vies in the 2015 Asean Basketball League (ABL) starting this week.
The Aguilas, also banking on the support of boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao, has also tapped two-time PBA Best Import awardee Arizona Reid in its maiden ABL campaign.
Also in the fold representing the Powervit Aguilas are Willie Miller, a former two-time MVP in the PBA, hotshot Sunday Salvacion, Carlo Sharma, and Jondan Salvador.
Mammie, the 6-foot-7 defender from Sierra Leone, on Tuesday said he’s glad to be part of the team, and vowed to give his best, whatever it takes.
“I will focus on rebounding. I will do the odd jobs inside the paint. I’m the garbage man,” said the former UE Warrior during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s Malate.
Reid, the American import, and Miller, are still expected to make heads turn in the league, were also invited to the forum presented by San Miguel Corp., Accel, Shakey’s, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., but begged off at the last minute.
