Law enforcement agencies are expected to file cases against anyone who violates the law, Malacañang said yesterday, following the arrest of a person who allegedly uploaded the video linking members of President Duterte’s family to the illegal drugs trade.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo recognized that law enforcers are expected to perform their jobs without being told by President Duterte.
“The President doesn’t have to instruct any police agency to file any case. It is the duty of the police enforcement agencies to file cases against violators of the law,” Panelo said.
For now, Panelo said Malacanang prefers to wait for the official report from the National Bureau of Investigation about the arrest of the video uploader.
“What we should do is just to wait for an official report on the investigation and why did they arrest this person in interest, exactly what is his participation, what proof do they have, so that we can file the necessary, appropriate charges against him kung meron man,” he said.
“We will just wait for the official report and then the police or the NBI will have to do their duty,” he added.
Authorities yesterday arrested the person involved in the posting of the “Ang Totoong Narcolist” video series implicating the President’s family and friends in the narcotics trade. The person was apprehended by the National Bureau of Investigation for cyber libel.
35Panelo reiterated that the President’s enemies plotting his ouster could do their worst. “They can do their worst, we just do our best except only if they pursue that and in the process, they will be performing criminal overt acts,” he said. (Genalyn Kabiling)
