CEBU CITY – The Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s Office has found probable cause to file a murder case against a 43-year-old man who admitted to brutally killing a 16-year-old girl in Lapu-Lapu last March.
Exactly two months after the gruesome murder, city prosecutor Ruso Zaragoza yesterday revealed his findings indicting Renato Llenes for the death of Christine Lee Silawan.
Llenes has admitted killing Christine Lee Silawan last March 10. The girl’s body was found in a vacant lot in Barangay Bankal last March 10.
In indicting Llenes, the prosecutor cleared the other suspect in the crime – a teenage boy who is a former boyfriend of Silawan.
The boy was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas about five days after Silawan was killed.
The boy denied involvement in the crime.
A few days later, operatives of the Lapu-Lapu police arrested Llenes, who then owned up the crime.
Zaragoza said the police showed several video clippings showing Silawan with another man before she was killed.
The fiscal said at least seven persons, including Llenes’ current and former live-in partners, identified Llenes as the one who was with the girl in the video footages.
The NBI Region 7, on the other hand, presented three witnesses identifying Llenes as the one who was with the girl in the video.
“The NBI claimed they have three witnesses but they didn’t show up in our office,” said Zaragoza. (Calvin Cordova)
