Severe thunderstorms over the country could possibly trigger flash floods or landslides due to the low-pressure area in Mindanao and the frontal system over the extreme Northern Luzon, State weather forecasters warned yesterday.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration located the LPA in the vicinity of San Luis, Agusan del Sur.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur.
Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the frontal system, the boundary between cold and warm air masses.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza warned of possible flash floods or landslides over low-lying and mountainous areas throughout the country, especially during severe thunderstorms.
He added that the weather bureau is not discounting the possibility that the LPA could develop into a tropical cyclone. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
