Cloudy skies and rain showers are expected across the country this weekend due to localized thunderstorms and the prevailing frontal system, the State weather bureau said yesterday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration warned residents affected by the two weather systems that possible flashfloods and landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be felt over Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, and Quezon due to the frontal system.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA had earlier said that the normal onset of wet season in the country is expected by the first half of June but the prevailing weak El Niño is seen to persist during the June to August period.
A frontal system is the boundary which separates the cold air and the warm air where major weather changes occur. (Alexandria San Juan)
