President Duterte is not a chocolate lover like most people.
While chocolate is considered a guilty pleasure by many, the President recently bared that he has chocolate allergy that causes him to vomit and pass out.
“I eat chocolate, in two minutes I’ll pass out,” Duterte said during the “Give Us This Day” program of evangelist Apollo Quiboloy. “Pagkatapos ako mag-puke, pass out talaga ako,” he added.
The President recalled that he became “unconscious” after eating Toblerone chocolate years ago. He said he later woke up at a hotel clinic.
“Pass out ka talaga. Ako nangyari ‘yan sa – it’s now Dusit but it used to be Manila Garden, ‘yung doon ako sa lobby nag – ‘yung Toblerone? Kinain ko ‘yun. Tapos doon rin ako nag-puke pero na – unconscious ako. The next time, nandoon na ako sa clinic ng doctor sa hotel,” he said.
Another chocolate-related incident happened while Duterte was doing prosecutorial work. He complained of intense headache at work after drinking chocolate for breakfast.
“Pagpasok ko, mag-start na ang mga kaso, sumasakit ang ulo ko,” he said.
Duterte advised people to check whether or not they were allergic to chocolate to avoid adverse health effects.
“Before you eat chocolate, kumain ka na muna ng… Or if you are an eater and you don’t know about it, magkain ka then try to observe if you suffer headache, if it is unbearable, sometimes it can be, ‘yan ‘yan. You have an allergy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Duterte might have no heart ailment but has his fair share of heartaches.
The President made the candid remark about the “hurts” endured by his “wayward heart” while fending off speculations he underwent a heart surgery last month.
“I’m not without – may sakit. Pero kung sabihin mo na na-operahan daw ako sa heart,” he said in a television interview last Saturday.
“If there is something wrong in my heart, it cannot be a heart disease. It could only be that a wayward heart has so many hurts that it ceased to see the right – the right numbers of…,” he said before trailing off.
The President is currently living with his long-time partner Honeylet Avanceña and daughter Veronica. He has three children – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and Sebastian Duterte with his first wife Elizabeth Zimmerman.
Last month, the President was rumored to have visited Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City but Malacanang denied Duterte was confined at the hospital.
Photos of the President having a meal at Bahay Pangarap in Malacanang with Senator-elect Bong Go were also released to dispel rumors about his deteriorating health. (Genalyn Kabiling)
