The low-pressure area being monitored east of the country will likely develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours and will be named “Dodong.”
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, the LPA was at 760 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora before noon yesterday.
Dodong will be the first tropical cyclone this month and fourth this year.
The trough or extension of the LPA and the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon, Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Visayas.
PAGASA had earlier said the LPA could enhance the habagat as it moves closer to the country by mid-week. Light to moderate habagat rains, becoming heavy during severe thunderstorms, are likely over most parts of Luzon, including the western section of Visayas.
However, the weather disturbance is less likely to make landfall over any part of the country.
PAGASA said the rest of the country could experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
