A low-pressure area entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility a day after tropical storm “Dodong” (international name “Sepat”) exited the country.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration spotted the LPA at 960 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar yesterday.
PAGASA weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said the LPA entered PAR around 9 p.m. Thursday or at least a day after Dodong left the country Wednesday night.
Dodong was seen yesterday morning at 2,120 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 90 kph, heading east-northeast at 50 kph.
Bulquerin said the LPA has a chance to develop into a tropical depression in the coming days. Once the LPA turns into a tropical depression, it will be given the local name “Egay,” the fifth tropical cyclone in the country this year. (Alexandria San Juan)
