International Master Daniel Quizon lost to fourth seed Indonesian IM Kaumandur Srihari Raghunandan in 73 moves of a Sicilian Defense in the 6th round of the Asian Juniors Chess Championships in Solo, Indonesia Friday night.
The loss sent Dasmariñas, Cavite’s pride from a share of second to a five-player tie at fifth place with four points, or 1.5 points behind solo leader IM Nguyen Anh Koi of Vietnam.
Quizon’s group included PH bets Jeth Romy Morado, who shocked sixth seed FIDE Master Nguyen Dang Hong Phuc of Vietnam, and IM John Marvin Miciano, who downed FM Constantus Leonardo Pratama of Indonesia.
Quizon was playing Miciano while Morado was battling second seed GM Venkataraman Karthik of India in the seventh round at presstime in the nine-round tournament staking three berths to the World Juniors in New Delhi, India in October.
