A 64-year old man tried, but unfortunately failed, to save his daughter and his four-year old granddaughter from drowning off the waters of Dumaran town of Palawan.
Brig. Gen. Tomas Apolinario, director of the MIMAROPA (Mindoro Occidental and Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police, said the heroic deed of Florentino Lagrosa also resulted in his death.
Apolinario said that it all started when the motorized banca boarding the victims was hit by strong waves at the Dumaran Channel at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The victims were reportedly heading back to their home in Barangay Bacao from Barangay Sta. Teresita when it happened.
“When the motorized banca was hit by strong waves, Lagrosa’s daughter and child fell on the sea,” said Apolinario.
He identified them as Lea Lagrosa Gabo and four-year old Florence Andrie.
“Florentino Lagrosa jumped into the sea to save them but he also drowned,” said Apolinario.
Apolinario said the cadavers of the three victims were retrieved by local rescue teams. (Aaron Recuenco)
