McLaude Guadaña finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds as Lyceum of the Philippines University defeated Letran, 74-64, in the NCAA juniors basketball tournament yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Jaerolan Omandac contributed 14 points and three rebounds while John Barba added 12 points, three assists and three boards for LPU, which also won in the men’s division during last Sunday’s opening of the oldest collegiate league in the country.
The LPU Pirates rallied back to beat the Knights, 84-80, behind the combined 42 points from Marcelino ‘twins’ – Jayvee and Jaycee – at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.
The win of the Junior Pirates was coach JC Docto’s first since he took over during the off-season.
CJ Saure led the Letran Squires with 23 points and eight boards while Shawn Argente was the other player in twin digits with 12 points to go with seven boards and four assists.
