International Master Daniel Quizon won all his seven matches on the way to ruling the blitz category in the Asian Juniors Chess Championships in Solo, Indonesia on Monday night.
Quizon, 15, vented his ire on on IM Nguyen Anh Koi of Vietnam, his conqueror in the premier standard event that the latter topped to reign in the one-day, seven-round tournament.
Quizon wound up fourth in the standard event.
The Cavite bet’s other victory came at the expense of Indonesia’s Duta Cahaya Satria, FIDE Master Daniel Hermawan Lumban Tobing and IM Novendra Priasmoro, India’s Grandmaster Venkataraman Karthik and FM Belurkar Nitish and IM John Marvin Miciano.
Quizon’s triumph underscored his status as the country’s top junior player.
Jeth Romy Morado, Miciano and Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano finished with just 4.5, four and 3.5 points, respectively.
The win was the second by a Filipino this week after WIM Kylen Joy Mordido triumphed in the girls’ rapid event.
Vic Glysen Derotas, the national junior girls’ champion, emerged the best scorer from in the PH in the blitz with five points followed by Mordido and Samantha Glo Revita with four each.
