A fleeing robbery suspect was shot dead by police during a chase in Pasig City on Saturday.
Police identified the fatality as Edgar Cuerdo, 47, a market porter, of Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.
Cuerdo’s cohort, a 17-year-old boy, was apprehended by cops.
Investigation showed that at around 9:30 a.m., a patrolling cop on motorcycle pursued the suspects aboard a speeding motorcycle along Sandoval Avenue in Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
Upon reaching a gasoline station, the cop cornered the duo. Instead of stopping, the suspect hit the cop’s motorcycle, police said.
The minor, on the other hand, got off the motorcycle and was left behind by Cuerdo. He was collared by authorities.
The cop pursued and cornered the suspect at Riverside Ilugin in Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
Police said Cuerdo yielded a handgun, which prompted the cop to shoot him.
Cuerdo was rushed to Pasig City General Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival due to bullets wounds in the body.
Meantime, the minor suspect was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office for custody.
Prior to the incident, police said the duo snatched the cellphone of an unidentified victim before speeding towards Sandoval Avenue.
Recovered from the crime scene were a .38-caliber revolver, four sachets of suspected shabu, a red motorcycle and a cellphone, according to police. (Jhon Casinas)
