Games Today (Mapua Gym, Intramuros Manila)
2 p.m. – Mapua vs St. Benilde (Jrs)
4 p.m. – Mapua vs St. Benilde (Srs)
College of Saint Benilde tries to keep its record clean as it goes for a share of the lead when it battles Mapua as the tournament goes ‘on tour’ again in the NCAA men’s basketball today at the Mapua University gym in Intramuros, Manila.
St. Benilde opened the season with two consecutive wins for second place, or just half a game behind defending three-time champion San Beda University as it posted its best start since it last appeared in the Final Four of the country’s oldest collegiate league during the 2002 season.
St. Benilde coach TY Tang hopes his team will continue its good form.
“We have a 2-0 start, so we’re hoping to build momentum as we continue our campaign,” said Tang, a former De La Salle University star who had a stellar stint with Rain or Shine in the PBA.
“It’s all about focusing on what we have to do, on what we have discussed in practices, and then giving it our best in the game,” said Tang, who is now on his third season with the Blazers.
St. Benilde opened the season with a 69-66 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College then the Blazers followed it up with a 75-63 triumph against last year’s semifinalist University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.
The game between the senior’s teams of CSB and Mapua in the second ‘on-tour’ matches is set at 4 p.m., right after the 2 p.m. encounter of the Junior Blazers and the Red Robins.
