Two alleged robbers were killed in a shootout with police after they held up jeepney passengers in Quezon City early Thursday morning.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said one Danny Diaz, who was identified through his driver’s license, and his unidentified companion died on the spot after engaging members of Quezon City Police Station 6 in gunfight.
According to a witness, he was onboard his motorcycle traversing Payatas Road around 2:30 a.m. when he saw six armed men blocking a passenger jeepney on Madjaas Road.
The witness immediately sped off and sought help from patrolling cops who quickly went to the area where they found an already empty jeepney.
While roaming the area, the witness along with the police patrollers spotted two of the suspects on board a motorcycle traversing Mayon Street.
Sensing that they were being followed, the duo sped off, resulting in a brief chase until they were cornered on Banahaw and Mayon Streets.
Instead of surrendering, the suspects pulled out their handguns and fired shots at the cops who retaliated and killed them.
Seized from the slain suspects were two .38-caliber guns, two sachets of shabu as well as backpacks and sling bags believed to have been taken from jeepney passengers.
A follow-up investigation is now ongoing to identify and locate the cohorts of the slain suspects. (Alexandria San Juan)
