Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday asked village officials to resign if they cannot eradicate drugs in the city.
This, after he presented 35 drug suspects inside the city hall, nine of them were arrested in Baseco Compound.
He issued the warning to officials who underperform in the anti-illegal drug campaign.
“They should resign…I will recommend them for dismissal,” he said.
Last August 1, the mayor has challenged police and anti-drug forces to clear Baseco area of illegal drugs for one week.
The Manila chief executive said the drug suspects should be jailed and all loose firearms be confiscated by authorities.
“Inutil ‘yung mga barangay offical sa Baseco, or kung hindi sila inutil, tumatanggap sila,” he said.
“Thirty five were arrested. Thirty five were alive. We don’t tolerate drug suspects in our city but at the same time, we respect human rights. They are suspects, let them prove their innocence before the court,” he added. (Erma Edera)
