PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan – Three swimmers and an archer became the multiple gold medalists on Wednesday after posting five impressive wins in the 2019 Batang Pinoy National Championships here.
Archer Aldrener Igot Jr. of Cebu City was on target at the Ramon V. Mitra field as he topped the 40-meter, 50m and FITA events in a fitting sequel to Monday’s victories in the 20m and 30m.
He’s hoping to add three more when he competes in the Olympic round, mixed team and boys’ teams in the coming days.
“Sana makapanalo pa ako,” said the 14-year-old Igot, an eighth grader from Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High School.
His golden feat enabled Cebu to lead the medal tally at press time with 12 gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze medals followed by Pasig (11-16-6), Quezon City (11-10-5) and Davao City (11-5-12).
Parañaque swimmer Mark Bryan Dula also continued his surge by winning the boys 12-under 100m backstroke in 1 minute and 08.11 seconds after early triumphs in the 50m fly (29.28sec) and the 200m backstroke (2:31.95) after victories in the 50m back (31.10sec) and 100m fly (1:04.55).
Also sharing the limelight at the pool were Cainta’s Aubrey Tom, who picked up her fifth gold in the girls 12-under 50m freestyle in 28.93sec, and Cotabato’s John Alexander Talosig, who ruled the boys 15-under 400m freestyle (4:20.03).
Talosig had earlier won the 400m individual medley, 1500m free, 200m IM and 200m free.
The joined the elite five-gold club founded by gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo.
In sepak takraw, team Kalibo, Aklan scooped three gold medals courtesy of Justine Patron and Jharred Ryiel Mabasa in early age boys regu; Michkael Xavier Malic, Frenz Jarwen Gregorio and John Jems Jizmundo in pre-teenager boys regu; and Ckurt Czarlie Anievas, Clowie Kenth Recto and Mecco Meof Prado in teenager boys regu.
Winning in cycling’s individual time trial road race that started the Sta. Monica Race Track were Malaybalay City’s Eleora Avanzado (11:02) in the 11-under division, Pangasinan’s Rosalie Dela Cruz (9:10) in 12-13 years old, and Sta. Rosa, Laguna’s Chelsea Sophia Periodico (9:04) in 14-15 years old.
