The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has not issued any release order to rape-slay convict former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Wednesday.
Guevarra said that BuCor Director General Nicanor Faeldon himself informed him that no release order has been made in favor of Sanchez.
“I have been informed that BuCor chief Faeldon denies having signed a release order for Sanchez” said Guevarra.
“Likewise, no report on such matter has been received by the DoJ,” he added.
The secretary responded to claims made by the Sanchez family that the BuCor has issued a release order on August 20.
Allan Antonio Sanchez, the former mayor’s son, recently informed the media that a person from the BuCor told the family that the release order has been issued.
Allan recounted that the family even went to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City last August 20 to pick up his father.
However, when they arrived there, Allan lamented that they received a text message that the release of the former mayor was put on hold.
Meanwhile, Guevarra has already ordered the BuCor to stop the processing of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTAs) of inmates.
Guevarra is set to form a task force to review the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 10592, the law which was passed in 2013 and amended provisions of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) to increase the number of GCTAs inmates can receive. (Jeffrey Damicog)
