At least 30 anti-kidnapping operatives of the Philippine National Police are undergoing surveillance and casing operations training to improve their capability amid the changing landscape in kidnap-for-ransom cases.
Police Col. Jonnel Estomo, PNP-Anti-Kidnapping Group chief, said they will also undergo marksmanship training.
“This is a programmed training that the PNP-AKG must conduct especially to the AKG personnel who do not have intelligence background or intelligence training to equip them with the knowledge, aptitude, and skills that requires in handling anti-kidnapping-for-ransom operations,” said Estomo.
Estomo said the 30 AKG personnel being trained are composed of officers and non-commissioned officers.
The surveillance and casing operations training started on Aug. 30 and will end on Sept. 30.
Included in the training are the basics of intelligence-gathering, conducting counter-surveillance, and how to write casing report.
The AKG personnel will be subjected to training programs to improve their shooting skills, according to AKG spokesman Police Lt. Col. Elmer Cereno.
The AKG suddenly found itself busy in dealing with KFR cases with the rising number of Chinese tourists and workers being kidnapped.
Cereno referred to these cases as casino-related kidnappings in which groups of Chinese loan sharks operating in various casinos across the country would abduct their fellow citizens who fail to their pay debts from gambling. (Aaron Recuenco)
