A prisoner at the New BiliBid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa with history of psychiatric disorder stabbed and wounded a Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officer Thursday morning.
BuCor spokesperson Sonny del Rosario identified the victim as BuCor Inspector Edgardo Ferrer who was stabbed in the abdomen by prisoner Wilson Topic.
The incident happened at around 8:40 a.m. on Sept. 12 after a headcount of prisoners at the NBP maximum security compound.
Ferrer was conducting inspection when Topic came closer, cursed him and stabbed him using a pair of scissors.
BuCor said Topic was just discharged from the NBP Hospital last Sept. 3 where he was confined since July 23 for schizophrenia, a serious mental disoder.
Ferrer was brought to the NBP Hospital for treatment. Topic was also brought back to the hospital for evaluation. According to employees, Ferrer is a hardworking BuCor officer.
