Tropical storm “Nimfa” (international name “Tapah”) slowed down yesterday morning while moving over the northern portion of the Philippine Sea before exiting the country today.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said improved weather conditions will be felt over Luzon beginning tomorrow as Nimfa is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility this morning.
PAGASA said Nimfa was last spotted 620 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes as of noon yesterday. It packs maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 90 kph.
The tropical storm slowed down before heading out of PAR and now moving west-northwest at 10 kph.
PAGASA weather specialist Lorie dela Cruz said Nimfa may intensify into a severe tropical storm while heading towards the southwest portion of Japan.
According to Dela Cruz, Nimfa will still enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” even while outside the country.
PAGASA said the habagat will bring occasional light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. (Alexandria San Juan)
