University of Batangas streaked to its fifth straight victory with a 102-83 drubbing of Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas on Monday in the PG Flex Linoleum-Universities and Colleges Basketball League at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque City.
JJ Caspe and Joseph Torres teamed up for 12 points to kick off the fourth quarter that saw the Brahmans pad a 71-61 third-quarter lead to a sizable 83-61 advantage and never looked back.
Caspe finished 26 points apart from posting 11 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and a block.
Torres, on the other hand, posted nine points, three boards and four assists as UB registered its best start since the league started four years ago.
Meanwhile, defending champion Diliman College needed just one big quarter to beat National College of Business and Arts, 89-51 and extend its own winning streak to four games.
For the second straight game, Johnnel Rey Bauzon led the DC Blue Dragons with 22 points spiked by two as they handed the Wildcats their fifth straight defeat.
So dominant were the Blue Dragons they raced to a commanding 33-14 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.
The first three quarters was a struggle for the Brahmans and needed the offensive spark from Caspe to pull away for good.
Harold de Guzman also shone for the Brahmans with 22 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Mart De Ramos chipped in 16 points and seven assists in another show of force.
Melvin Ricaña flirted with a triple-double with 15 points, 11 boards and eight assists while Raoul Yemeli hauled 13 rebounds on top of eight points.
With the loss, Lyceum dropped to an even 2-2 card despite Aliane Lapasaran and John Weiland Villanueva scoring 20 and 21 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Olivarez College erupted to 27 points in the fourth while holding Philippine Christian University-Dasmarinas to just 14 points on the way to scoring an 85-77 win.
Olivarez’s win improved its record to 2-2, tying LPU-B for fourth to fifth places in the eight-team tournament.
