A tropical depression may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.
PAGASA spotted the tropical cyclone 1,685 kilometers east of Visayas yesterday morning.
The tropical depression will be named “Onyok” once it enters the PAR. Onyok would be 20th tropical cyclone to enter the PAR this year.
PAGASA weather specialist Ana Clauren said that the tropical depression is expected to further enhance into a tropical storm while moving over the Philippine Sea.
Clauren added that it has a slim chance of hitting any part of the country’s land mass while inside PAR but will pass near the extreme Northern Luzon.
Meanwhile, the northeasterly surface windflow is currently affecting Northern Luzon.
Cloudy skies with rain showers and isolated thunderstorms will prevail in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora.
Localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
PAGASA warned residents in areas affected by the wind flow and localized thunderstorms that possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms may occur. (Alexandria San Juan)
