Manila Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has been awarded the prestigious Gusi Peace Prize for 2019, the lone nominee from the Philippines.
The Gusi Peace Prize Philippine and International Committee recognized the Mayor’s “untiring effort, working for people’s amelioration, to find peaceful solutions for people’s welfare by promoting peace through Statesmanship.”
The group also said Domagoso “greatly contributed to the lives of people through consistently creating positive changes” since he was elected as mayor of Manila.
The award recognizes his involvement in reducing crime and environmental degradation in the nation’s capital and his “rapid movement in a short span of time.”
The Gusi Peace Prize International Group recognized his work since he started as a councilor and vice mayor of Manila.
“Your endeavors had provided great opportunities that ameliorated the political standards and quality of life, therefore achieving peace and prosperity,” the group said.
The mayor will receive his award along with 17 other laureates during a ceremony at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City on Nov. 27.
Last year, Supreme Court Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin was also one of the awardees of the Gusi Peace Prize International Awards.
The Gusi Peace Prize recognizes individuals and organizations who contribute towards global peace and progress through wide variety of fields.
It was founded by Barry Gusi as a way to continue the work of his late father, Gemeniano Javier Gusi, a World War II guerrilla who fought against the Japanese and later became a politician and human rights advocate.
