SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna – Police arrested an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Cordillera Administrative Region and his companion in Barangay Pacita 1 here last Saturday.
The Laguna Police Provincial Office identified the suspects as Richard Gaufo, PDEA agent assigned at PDEA-CAR, of St. Jude Village, San Fernando City, Pampanga, and his companion Joseph Martin Patrick Alfonso Borjal, who was arrested in 2018 for usurpation of authority.
Police obtained a search warrant against Borjal for violation of Republic Act 10591, known as Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act.
A raid was conducted at Borjal’s house at 12:15 p.m.
Authorities saw Borjal and was arrested and Gaufo, who happened to be there, was also arrested.
Seized by the Laguna police intelligence branch and the city police from them were suspected shabu, guns, ammunition, outside holster, grenade, drug paraphernalia, back pack, sling bags, and a fake PDEA identification card in the name of Borjal.
Suspects face charges of violating Section 11 of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591.
PDEA Director-General Aaron Aquino earlier vowed to enforce the full force of the law equally and without bias to all following the arrest of Gaufo.
Gaufo’s arrest, Aquino said, shows that crooked law enforcers exist, even at PDEA.
Warning his men of strict repercussions, Aquino denounced PDEA’s “crooked agents’’ and vowed to “pursue them to the full extent of the law.’’ (Danny Estacio and Chito Chavez)
