Tracker teams from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) were ordered Tuesday to hunt down three of the 19 convicts that were released through the anomalous implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) Law but defied calls to surrender until now.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said he had already issued the names of the three convicts and other details to his tracker teams for follow-up operations.
“Our tracker teams are now working to locate and bring back them to jail,” said Eleazar.
While the NCRPO tracker teams have been provided the details, it was learned that all those whose last known address in Metro Manila have no photos with them.
Only 12 of the 19 convicts have photos.
The list of 19 hard-headed GCTA-freed convicts was forwarded by the Department of Justice to the Philippine National Police (PNP) through the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
For his part, PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said that they will now resume the operations for the 19 convicts.
A total of 1,914 convicts were ordered to surrender over their questionable release, but more than 2,000 surrendered.
Some of those who surrendered were already released after it was found out that they were not covered by the GCTA. (Aaron Recuenco)
