Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a case build-up on the killing of Batuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III in Sampaloc, Manila, last October 9.
NBI Director Dante A. Gierran has also been ordered to file appropriate charges against persons found responsible for Yuson’s death “if evidence warrants.”
At the same time, Gierran has been told to submit reports on the progress of the investigation directly to the office of Secretary Guevarra.
The directive to Gierran was contained in Department Order No. 564 dated Oct. 18, 2019 and signed by Guevarra.
Police records showed that in the morning of October 9, the late Vice Mayor Yuson visited his brother Charlie Yuson Jr., who was a barangay chairman.
Vice Mayor Yuson was having his breakfast at a canteen on Vicente G. Cruz Street in Sampaloc, Manila, when unidentified armed men alighted from a vehicle and fired shots at him and his companions
The vice mayor was proclaimed dead at the scene of the crime, while his two companions were rushed to the hospital.
Four persons were arrested by police but they were ordered released.
Lalaine Yuson, wife of the slain vice mayor, has condemned the release of the four suspects. She had said her family would refile the criminal charges.
Also, the wife had requested President Duterte and Sen. Roland dela Rosa a Senate inquiry into the killing. (Rey Panaligan)
