BACOLOD CITY – Two councilors of Barangay Kalamtukan in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental were gunned down by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants in Sitio Napac-an, Barangay Kalumboyan, Bayawan City last Thursday.
Slain were Felipe Condez Jr., 60, a former barangay captain; and his son, Jonesis, 31.
Police Col. Julian Entoma, Negros Oriental police director, said both victims were riding a motorcycle on their way home when the assailants tailed and shot them.
When the two victims fell from their motorcycle, the two gunmen disembarked from their motorcycle and shot them again several times, Estoma said.
“There was really an intent to kill them. Tinapos talaga sila kasi bumaba pa ng motorsiklo,” he added. Both victims died on the spot due to head injuries.
Estoma said more than 10 empty shells of M16 rifle and .45 caliber pistol were recovered by authorities from the crime scene.
He dismissed reports that the incident was insurgency-related or was triggered by political rivalry. Estoma said they are eyeing family dispute as possible angle in the killing because of a misunderstanding in the family.
He said they already have persons of interest but he refused to disclose their names while investigation is ongoing. (Glazyl Masculino)
