The Department of Education (DepEd) vowed to formally investigate a teacher in Ajuy town, Iloilo province, who allegedly showed a pornographic video for sex education class.
“Our legal office is creating a probe team,” said Dr. Roel F. Bermejo, DepEd-Division of Iloilo superintendent.
“While we want justice, this will undergo due process,” Bermejo said in a Tuesday afternoon interview.
While no formal complaint has been made, Bermejo disclosed he has already ordered the principal of Pili National High School to submit an incident report.
The incident occurred last week when an unnamed male teacher showed his Grade 10 students a video with the title “Girl’s Guide to 21st Century Sex”.
In a separate interview, Mayor Jett Rojas said that parents were aghast to learn their children were made to watch the video.
Rojas disclosed that Ajuy Town Councilor Angel Briones first talked to the unnamed teacher, who showed Briones the video. While Rojas admitted he has not personally seen the video, he pointed out that Briones deemed it to be inappropriate.
The mayor also echoed the findings of the Philippine National Police-Women and Children’s Protection Desk (PNP-WCPD) of Ajuy that the video is not for students, but for married couples.
Rojas further said Tuesday that he has yet to submit his formal letter of complaint to DepEd-Division of Iloilo.
Aside from formal investigation, the DepEd-Division of Iloilo is looking at the effects of the incident on students.
“Whether or not the allegations are true, our priority is the well-being of our students,” Bermejo assured.
“We can provide registered counselors for the psycho-social services,” Bermejo added.
