Authorities seized more than a thousand boxes of frozen poultry products from China in Barangay San Rafael Village, Navotas City, Wednesday night.
The boxes contained assorted duck and chicken parts weighing up to 12,648 kilos.
Agents of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), the Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Navotas City Police Station led the operation at around 9:30 p.m.
Prior to the confiscation, authorities received a tip that frozen poultry products from China were being unloaded from a container van at a warehouse in Navotas.
Police said the driver of the container van denied that he knew about the products that they were unloading.
The agriculture department is enforcing a ban on meat products from China amid threats of avian flu virus and African swine flu.
The confiscated meat products were brought to the NMIS-National Capital Region for proper disposal.
The owner of the warehouse, who has yet to be identified, may face charges for violation of Republic Act 9296 and Republic Act 10536 or The Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines. (Minka Tiangco)
