Malacañang yesterday refused to comment on the impeachment of US President Donald Trump for abuse of power.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said Malacanang would not comment on Trump’s impeachment, saying the US is a sovereign nation with its own affairs.
“In the same way that we react on any intrusion into the processes of our government, we’d rather not make any comment on that,” he said.
“Other than saying that in the same way that the impeachment in this country is decided on the basis of party affiliations, eh siguro ganoon din sila,” he added.
Malacañang had earlier said that President Duterte and Trump share the same admiration for each other because of the similarity of their leadership styles.
“Nagulat nga tayong lahat na ganoon din ang style. Oh, siyempre ‘pag ganyang pareho ang style niyo, ‘di meron kayong mutual admiration sa psyche,” Panelo said.
Duterte and Trump are known to have a good relationship. This was evident during Trump’s visit to the Philippines in 2017 for the 31st Association of Southeast Asia Nations Summit and Related Summits. Duterte belted out a song because of Trump’s request. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
